What in the hairy heck did I just read? Rarely have I ever seen someone try so hard to get whacked with a ban hammer. I'm ... literally speechless. Wow.

It'd probably get a "So?" To one extent or another, fans of both editions like fiddly bonuses, there's not a lot of argument to make there that would do more than leave them blinking at you. Its actually far easier for fans of one edition to pick fights with the other.

That's an example where there's enough common ground between 5e and, say, PF1e that there can be some degree of viable argument.

My point really was there's a difference between "I hate everything about classes and don't follow D&D 5e but I'll argue with you about class redesign" and "Your discussion of the Exploration Pillar has the same problem it does in non-D&D games covering the same ground". The former is just kind of weird and perverse, where the second just tries to broaden the discussion.
There is a difference between adding to the discussion about principles vs. just crapping on the topic. Yes.

As to it’s all the same:

1. Hard disagree. Different games and editions have different levels of complexity. It’s not all the same fiddly. But that misses the point (and I have had fun with BECMI and 3e as long as I don’t DM and prefer 1e and 5e)

2. My example…was just an example. Pick some other feature of some other game.

To put it super bluntly, if some folks (A and B) are talking about a game they like and person (C) who does not like it or participate in it jumps in to talk about why they should tear it down to its roots, it sucks.

You misunderstood me. PF fans would just blink at you because they consider detail in this area a virtue. To some extent to fight with someone you have to share a premise; people will try to force that (by begging the question) but if someone just doesn't, it usually doesn't go anywhere.

Most rule/structure fights aren't about people who don't share a premise, but do, and then will get in dogged fights about how to get there.

I think you're taking my responses here as being more hostile than they are (or at least intended here).

That's entirely fair.

Nope did not pick up on any hostility at all.

Darn. Feel like I have to be explicit in a way this thread may not need.

Some people don’t like D&D. That’s ok! But as an active player I don’t need to hear how bad it sucks when said people resent 90% of its premises fiction history and mechanics.

There are many other threads here in which they can geek out over a shared interest. I realized a long time ago that my grousing about 4e when it was the current edition (not on this forum) to its active fan base was obnoxious.

Live and learn and let people have their brand of fun.

Some people derive enjoyment from skating the edge. They actually want to get banned so that they can come back and try to find the limits again. I have no idea why anyone would actively want to be somewhere they aren't wanted, but there you have it.

I refuse to post on any forum that would have me as a poster.
Ooops, sorry, wrong Marx.
