Some less-used critters of yore:
kryst - "The kryst are intelligent beings made of crystalline rock. They are native to the Elemental Plane of Earth. A kryst looks like a group of 12 golden crystal spikes, all projecting outward from a central point." (from BECM Companion set)
horde - an elemental earth species at war with the kryst, "'The hordes' are life forms native to the elemental plane of Earth. Each single life force has hundreds of separate insectlike bodies. The size of the bodies ranges from 3 to 21 feet long" (from BECM Companion set)
oh, and an accidental pic that came up while generating these:

sussurus* - "Sussuri appeared as headless quadrupedal figures of vaguely humanoid, almost ape-like shape. They had an exoskeleton filled with small gaps that drew in sustaining air, which created the creature's signature dronesong." (from FR wiki; original creature from 1e Fiend Folio, i think)
In my own re-imagining of this creature, they're more like "natural" constructs, and their role is specifically to pacify undead.
