D&D 5E Extra attacks for barbarian and fighter

A Hunter Ranger using Marks is a very competative and powerful build. Its the TWFing Beastmaster that has issues - bonus action eaten up by off hand attack, and the Companion doesn't benefit from Hunter Marks. So, saying that the Marks are helpful ignores a lot of issues with the class. Specific builds are very good. Others? Not so much.

Rangers with good feat selection will destroy a fighter or barbarian in damage per round for most of their careers. Human variant 5th level ranger: 18 dex (15 start, +1 human, +2 more at 4th), dual wielder feat (variant human). Casts Hunter's Mark every combat. Two-weapon fighting talent. Dual Rapier. Hunter/Hordebreaker. When facing two foes he makes 3 attacks for d8+d6+4 damage and one at d8+d4 damage against the second target - an average of 44.5 damage (excluding misses and crits). If you've played a melee class, you can see that this blows most of the melee classes out of the water. The other classes can't even catch up at 5th level if they use limited resources like frenzy rage, action surge, etc....

TWF Hunter Ranger is the strongest melee class (if you ignore beastmaster). It gets even worse if you take that 5th level PC and then add three levels of Champion fighter and eleven levels of assassin rogue (or just 15 levels of assassin rogue).

I'm new to 5e, so apologies if my question seems obvious or rudimentary...If I'm reading the PHB correctly, a 5th level Path of the Beserker barbarian has the possibility of three attacks: his/her regular attack, the extra attack earned at level 5, and then a third attack (as a bonus action) when using Frenzy. Is this correct, or am I missing some restriction?
You are correct. This is the point of Frenzy, and why it can be worth taking on a level of exhaustion to do it.

Also, does a 5th level fighter have the ability to make four attacks? Attack twice instead of once because of Extra Attack, then do the same thing a second time because of Action Surge?
Correct again. Of course, you can only do it once per short rest.

Hunter's Mark doesn't work very well with TWF. Most rounds you'll need your bonus action to cast it or transfer it to a new target, which means you won't get your extra attack from TWF. Horde Breaker is also very situational -- most combats I've been in don't have enemies directly adjacent to each other unless it's somewhere like a tight corridor. However, it's a lot of damage on the occasions when it all comes together.

It seems to me that the Fighter - particularly the Battlemaster fighter - only hits her stride at 11th level with the third attack.

I think all the warrior types have a way of getting the second standard attack around level 5.

And wizards can start casting fireball...5th level is a serious level.

Indeed, that is when business starts to get serious.

Most fighters have a third attack from a bonus action either through feats or dual wielding by 5th level.

Strictly speaking, they can have three attacks at first level - action, bonus action, and reaction. But I'm talking about the third strike within the Attack Action.
