What do people think, are these "out of the box" or have they been touched up/repainted?
There is no doubt in my mind that these are promo pics that have been touched up. I'm sure the out of box minis will look good, but not that good. The same has been true for past pics/sets.

They aren't so much as promotional minis as "master copies" which the painters then use as the basis for their paint jobs.

Unfortunately, I don't think the paint is quite thick enough - or maybe it's a function of (lack of) priming.

The actual detail in painting onthe miniatures is often quite good, though the faces can be lacking.

Cheers!

Fair enough. I believe that was the term I was looking for. They serve both purposes pretty much the same by my guess.

I've seen good paint jobs on mini's and bad paint jobs. Sometimes it varies greatly between two of the same mini.

I think these look pretty cool, although I too would likely never have any need for the Young Master. The Treant is very snazzy...

One thing with every new D&D mini edition annoys me: Why must there always be a new monk model? The Young Master looks great (as do the rest) but seriously, how many monks do we need (from a RPG perspective)?
