    Why Worldbuilding is Bad

Imagine my surprise and wandered by the site and saw a green flag indicating a thread I had posted in decades (okay, A decade) ago. *Sips whiskey and reminisces about the good ol' days.*

Superheroes are a hot commodity -- why aren't superhero RPG's?

Similarly, I think that the needs of the genre are very broad. Some of my players are not really fans of the Avengers or JLA, but really dig street-level stuff like Punisher or Daredevil. Though you may see the supers genre as a single genre, it's actually somewhat diverse.

Superheroes are a hot commodity -- why aren't superhero RPG's?

Mutants & Masterminds, while not perfect, is relatively good and relatively popular. It is very "gameable", so it requires some combination of a strong GM hand and play group that is willing to play to what's fun and genre appropriate over power-builds. I think it's also important to consider...

    Easter eggs in gaming

Emerald City for Mutants & Materminds is loaded with references to comics, sf, and MST3k.

Some of the setting/resource book stuff is gold, useful for any supers game.

What Value Does The Game Bring?

    - A "contract" or expectations about the way the narrative will proceed. -- Related to this, the rules themselves produce a particular narrative flow. Different games produce different results. Cthulhu is different from Fate is different from Pathfinder. - Pure "gamism", and the joy of the...

Pathfinder 1E Looking for ideas - the "Mad Architect"

As is often the case when I start planning out adventures, I am finding that planning too far in advance turns out to be a waste. I was planning on having the players explore a ruined temple on their way to other cities for other reasons. I pictured a temple that fell during the Godswar...

So... Traveller... tell me about the cool things you've done with it

I ran and played in lots of fun games. Saved an Imperial Cousin from the Zhodani on an interdicted world with my Marine Colonel. Performed black ops in the disputed solamani zone. Played a scuzzy merchant who bent the rules in The Traveller Adventure Chased the legends of sky pirates...

Sean's Picks of the Week (0321-0325) Transhuman FATE, Savage Thule, 5e Amethyst, and More!

Transhumanity's Fate looks all kinds of awesome.

    Pathfinder 1E Mythic Adventures. Huh?

It's more just a big pile of extra cool powers, which nonetheless I found more interesting that such a quip might suggest. It acknowledges that the approach of extending the game by more levels (and all that entails) ad infinitum sort of never worked, so adds a second advancement track that...

Pathfinder 1E What Made You Switch To Pathfinder?

I was already a highly sympathetic customer of Paizo and saw them as the torchbearer of all that was good about d20 by the time they announced their intent to make a d20 follow-on system. At the same time, though I loved 3e and was highly invested in it, I acknowledged that it could use a...
