[Creative Exercise] Worlds in a word, planes in a paragraph

Multiple small suns over one planet? I rather like that idea. Each sun gets a different personality. Some are dead. Or missing.

What are you reading in 2024?

Just read the new James SA Corey The Mercy of Gods. No spoilers; enjoyed it. Slow start; characters are a bit weak; finds a better stride about halfway through and characters emerge through adversity. Very much looks to be a story in 3 parts. Still enjoyed it. First book of The Expanse didn't...

RPG Evolution: Hike Like a Hero

Hey! Tuckermans! Nice hike! :) My brother & sister & their families ski the bowl in the spring. Mt Washington in particular can be a real surprise. It's the highest point east of the Rockies & sits at the confluence of several weather patterns. There's a book, Not Without Peril, that explores...

What are you reading in 2024?

So my rant-like list of questions was somewhat out of context, but I'm pretty certain I -AM- missing a book, because I've only got 8. But I don't know what one because a) I don't have them here; and b) it might (likely) be that I read one but don't own it (library? GF?). Appreciate the info...

What are you reading in 2024?

Got Rimrunners & Amongst Our Weapons from Amazon, only to realize I've read Amongst Our Weapons...which brings up a whole set of questions.* Ditched The Terraformers. Read Rimrunners. Tt fills in some really big gaps that only get glanced on elsewhere, but it's not one of her best works, and if...

What are you reading in 2024?

Murderbot refers to itself as I or Murderbot or SecUnit. It is never "he" or "she". I don't think it outright "states a preference", although I might be wrong. I think the second book makes clearer how absolutely gross Murderbot finds biological functions, and people, and people's biological...

What are you reading in 2024?

I took a break from CJ Cherryh to read The Terraformers by Annalee Newitz and I'm desperately regretting it. For a science writer, the author appears to be totally unaware of even the most BASIC features of how a river works (which kinda matters) or the vocabulary. A river does not meet the sea...

What are you reading in 2024?

Murderbot is an it/they. They have no genitalia, no reproductive organs, and no overt (/useless) sexual characteristics. Murderbot also thinks sex is gross, touching is gross, and double triple eww the leaking. Also, they've cast a guy as Murderbot so that's gonna mess with your headcanon. No...

What are you reading in 2024?

I'm reading those two back to back and after I finish the main run for a reason. Got through 'em once though, and remember enjoying them, so fingers crossed. I desperately want to map out the Alliance-Union area somewhat properly, and work out a proper timeline, but it'd mean very nearly...

What are you reading in 2024?

I meant to read more Dee since now I have more Dee (thank you!), but I'm still stuck on Cherryh. Tripoint, Voyager in Night, and currently Finity's End. ViN is the odd one out; technically Alliance-Union but only by the barest margins. I've still got to get Rimrunners (again), then I'll move...

What are you reading in 2024?

I forgot to get more Cherryh from my apartment (which is currently mostly storage) or any Dee, so while briefly forced to contemplate other authors, the universe does provide, in the form of Alliance Rising which I forgot my gf had ordered (along with some books for herself) and arrived...

What are you reading in 2024?

I really really like Martha Wells, and her love of Very Large Ruins. She's been underappreciated, and I'm glad to see Murderbot bringing her mainstream attention, although casting a human in the role of Murderbot seems like a misstep for the series. They're so...leaky.

Not being able to sleep is getting to be a real pain. On the other hand, Merchanter's Luck was a fast read and lighter than most of Cherryh's stuff. (For those following along, I think the mill foundation was boulders & stones found near the site. A lot of granite there showed more cracking...
