D&D General Advice for DMing for children

Guess we will have to disagree on this one. GM of course has the final authority. But having a 2nd adult to assist can be a huge time saver. If the GM has to choose between a kid going "I have to pee, where's the bathroom?" and leaving the rest of the kids unattended, what do you suggest? Or...

D&D General Advice for DMing for children

From a player's perspective that has played with younger kids: 2nd the idea that you are the GM. Another adult needs to be the parent/guardian. The 2nd adult handles the "I want a drink/snack." "I need to pee..." "I am bored..." stuff. A GM doing parenting stuff is a distracted GM...

Friday Fun: Let's Share Weird NPC Ideas

As a player, my Bard pretending to be a Rogue somehow and unknowing at the time impressed a mimic in a dungeon that decided to follow us home. Everyone failed the "see the mimic" perception checks while in the dungeon. We found it outside our base of operations(a tavern) the next morning...

D&D General Ideas for minions of a vampire

Vampires are often portrayed as charismatic. More through force of personality then pure good looks. Wouldn't be out of character for some rather normal living types to be followers. Possibly even some nominally good types that are fooled by the vampire's personality. Maybe the vampire...

D&D General 1979 AD&D coloring album art sells for $57,500

Such happenings are sad, but from the WOTC perspective, shipping a bunch of 2nd ed stuff from the soon to be closed TSR warehouse/HQ to the WOTC warehouse/HQ probably didn't make much sense, in light of plans to create and release 3rd ed. Neither shipping nor warehouse space are free. Plus the...

D&D General Art of Clyde Caldwell Kickstarter

The KS added the ability to add on 8x10 signed prints for $20 per. Plus the answer to the "Do prints increase shipping if you pledged a book?" was NO.

    Gardening

In my part of the US, gardening is generally considered a subset of yardwork. Gardening might be working in a decorative or vegetable garden. Yardwork might be mowing the grass, trimming hedges or trees, general cleanup, planting something not in a garden. If one mows the grass and weeds the...

    Gardening

My location in Oklahoma USA means winter is about 3 months of dry often cold weather. Sometimes Siberian cold that comes over the pole to visit. Don't really bother with a pretty garden. It freezes in winter and is a fight to keep watered during summer. Been growing gourds for some friends...

    Today I learned +

The implication being that if WW-III is fought with a full spread of nukes, WW-IV will be fought against 3 ft cockroaches with stone knives and bearskins.

    Artemis II (+)

Ah, slip roads! Used a B&N Nook tablet paired with a blue tooth GPS gizmo and a side loaded map app when I and 2 friends did a 1500 mile trip to Dragoncon around 2012. Smartphones weren't really a common thing and none of us had a dedicated GPS navigation device. It worked fairly well but I...

    In-Game Publications?

Its an older thread, but it still checks out.

    In-Game Publications?

Even without a printing press, books, guides and such could exist. As could libraries. The real world Library of Alexandria for example. For fictional settings - In the movie How to Train Your Dragon, there was some kind of 'Guide to Dragons' that Hiccup referred to while researching...

D&D General D&D Red Box: Who Is The Warrior?

My take on it is the warrior in the original picture is a man as that is what the artist drew. If Wizkids wants to create a female warrior mini inspired by the original picture, that is Wizkid's option. Maybe he found one of those sex change magic items available during some of that era and...

Need help finding a PDF of a public domain book

No clue on saving the binding. But - my linux PC's drivers for my Epson flatbed scanner include a 'Save as PDF' option. You might be able to rig up something to hold a camera over your book and take pictures of each page. Will probably wind up with jpg files but at least it would be digital.

Let's Talk About War as a Backdrop to Adventure

Traveller often has war as a background setting. Pick your <X>th Frontier War. The Vargr being troublesome again. A system refusing to pay Imperial taxes. Or a couple of systems fighting it out over something while the Imperials watch from the sidelines.(many a yellow or red zone is due to...
