Wait this is an example of what you mean...seriously??

    D&D (2024) I have the DMG. AMA!

This didn't really answer my question... and reading this I'm unsure what they wrote in the PHB to encourage an adversarial stance between players and DM's.

OK, I have to ask... if your players have decided this, what advice could they possible offer that would force them not to rest?

Well I would assume anyone who is thinking about the game deeply enough to know they do not want to play with feats is looking to tinker (though I don't think selecting the simplest feat is actually doing much in the way of tinkering.)... otherwise they'd just play the default game (which most...

The description I addressed in my post "Looking for a way to kill a few hours once in awhile" doesn't seem to describe you... but it does describe what I would consider a casual gamer.

I'd assume folks looking for a way to kill a few hours once in a while would just select a feat they don't really have to think about... like the ASI option. On the other hand those in a mixed group could select a more complex feat and it wouldn't affect the more casual players. EDIT: Which is...

But... it is a valid option. It's one of the advantages of having a traditionally run game. The DM can decide they don't want to use feats (except for the ASI increase) and the players decide whether that's the type of game they are looking for. Is it that it needs to be the official default...

Yes and I'm saying if the group wants to play with or without feats the tools are there to do so... they can choose and it's simple. Where exactly is the Oberoni fallacy creeping in?

What exactly is the problem being addressed?

The counter argument wasn't about the wording... the fact is they gave any group that wants to play a game without feats the same option they had in the 2014 books... so any group that wants to play a game without feats easily can.

Its not technically banning, it's restricting. And I don't think any group that wants to play without the complexity of multiple feats would have a problem with it.

There's an ability score improvement feat... for all practical purposes taking this feat is the same as the trade off in the 2014 books.

D&D (2024) WotC Invites You To Explore the World of Greyhawk

Its not a relative term. The Nentir Vale is a complete region of an entire campaign setting. Going by your statement above... Keep on the Borderlands is a complete campaign setting as are many adventures that feature a town and surrounding areas but leave the wider setting unexplored. And please...

But it's an incomplete campaign setting. As in the setting itself wasn't complete only a region of it was presented.
