Taylor Navarro Joins Wizards of the Coast as D&D Designer

I think slop is a bit harsh, there were bad books but good books too. I think to Staffans point, it goes wrong whrn too directly linked. Someone shouldn't have to read the novels to keep up with the rpg setting, or things from novels be automatically applied to the setting. But I think books...

Taylor Navarro Joins Wizards of the Coast as D&D Designer

I think where the lines get blurred is when they do novels as well for a setting, like the hundreds of forgotten realms and dragonlance novels. Those are intended for people to enjoy the stories and continuity as stories follow on from each other. Ultimately I came into Forgotten Realms from...

What are you reading in 2026?

Seeing latest humble bundle book bundle with good Forgotten Realms novels, I see myself rereading Cyrse of the Azure Bonds and the Counselors and Kings trilogy and trying Brimstone Angels for the first time this year.

Goodman Games: Our Efforts Have Been Mischaracterized

While I think i generally agree with a lot of this, I would say I feel no one has any obligation to reach out to others with compassion / understanding. I think it is fine if people want to cut others out of their life due to their beliefs / actions - yes it may entrench the other side, but...

Goodman Games: Our Efforts Have Been Mischaracterized

I think if the person bought / enjoyed the games before knowing, while it may coloir their perception of some books (i can't look at Eddings books the same way anymore) I wont hold it against them if they continue to enjoy playing the game. Where i will judge, is where they decide to continue...

What are you reading in 2026?

Following Interceptor City, been doing my normal start of year reading of various Kindle unlimited books, making use of their black Friday deal on Kindle unlimited before unsubscribing again:) Seem to be erring on horror these days. Last year was reading through various Aliens Omnibuses (cant...

Let's talk about "plot", "story", and "play to find out."

I was somewhat inspired also by overgeekeds post in what are you reading about kishōtenketsu story structure, and recognizing i quite like that sort of structure, that line up with some of my comfort sort of reads, where a lot less 'stress' than reading books with a lot of tension etc.

Let's talk about "plot", "story", and "play to find out."

You will get a series of events, but post events i think you can readily tie them together into a story as such. I think with dnd it is a post session thing where would string the events into a story, as a lot of in game play is determining things like do I hit, does anyone need to make a...

Let's talk about "plot", "story", and "play to find out."

While I may agree with not getting that outcome naturally, I don't think that is only definition of story, and that you can have stories without conflict / rising action, and that dnd 2e cpuld generate those sorts of stories.

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

Well, in hypothetical example, that could mean a lot of rolls during prep to do possible encounters each time period, possibly each hour, depending on how granular the time period impacts on encounters are, and also how much of thr weather you want to determine ahead, again maybe hour by hour...

    Star Wars prequel questions

Not sure if i read Outbound Flight, and some time since reading any of the EU, but impression I had was that Palpatine didn't care about the Vong, just used it as a way of getting Thrawn (who worried a lot about the Vong) on his side, and a convenient excuse for getting rid of a number of Jedi...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Also not sure you need to forgive to let go of the grudge as such. Im estranged from my Mum and one of my siblings due to disagreement around my life choices. I tried at time to find some path to reconciliation, but just kept getting hurt. So in end im happily staying estranged, im not...
