D&D 5E I'm the DM and a player is trying to abuse the Immovable Rod. Advice?

Like others have mentioned there are some social issues to be worked out here. I'd like to hear how it turned out with this person both as a player and as a DM.

D&D 5E How to bring new character into PotA? *spoilers, obviously*

Fortunately PotA's primary adventure hook is based upon the disappearance of a delegation. Monster attacks and banditry are on the rise. Eventually the cults will retaliate, so taking out the first few outposts in no way cripples any of the cults. The alcoholism in the flavor text gives you a...

Help Me Decide! VTT Gaming on a 34" Curved Monitor vs. Dual monitors

I have a Fantasy Grounds Ultimate License and also Subbed and played on Roll20 for over a year. The whole time I used my Surface Pro or my desktop with 1 23" Gsync TN monitor. I miss my old 2 monitor set up but the place is very small and I knew I would move again in a year so I didn't pick up...

D&D 5E What would you put in monster manual 2?

    1. Liberals 2. Conservatives 3. Ninjas 4. Hipsters 5. Hicks (Not Bill. He's cool. Also: RIP)

D&D 5E DM question: Should I take it all back?

When I fudge I roll extra dice. I tell the players I'm rolling for background things frail mortal brains would explode attempting to conceive. Usually I'm just buying time. As ideas flit through my mind and I check dice rolls eventually a positive/negative idea lands with a positive/negative...

    D&D 5E Evil Campaign?

I'd help if you'd said "My friends and I". It is proper and polite. It places those you speak of before yourself. Since you prefer to place yourself above all others you can just look at your daily life and come up with all sorts of nasty scenarios can't you? ----- In the early years your...

    Sell me on the Warlock

*Puts his arm around your shoulder and leads you down an aisle* Looking for a new class? Let me guess, you're older than 5 but less than 100, have an income of some sort...now now don't worry if it's from your parents. Income is income! So! What are you in the market for? A spell caster...

    Interesting Fight Mechanics

When I see a posts by people upset at the min/maxing of groups I empathize. I really do. Mostly for the other players because they might feel weak and ineffective. Since I mostly (only?) DM I consider the min/max player a challenge to my own creativity. To counter this I must create complexity...

    D&D 5E Was I in the wrong?

Up until now I've upheld that there was no error based on the information in the OP. Now that there is more detail I am of the opinion that the Ranger's Int roll may have prevented him from selling the ring and gauntlet as a set. He asked about the gauntlet's value and rolled well. The ring...

    D&D 5E Was I in the wrong?

I disagree. Such behavior can be handled either way, though preferably both. Handling something out of game is easier, faster and you can afford to be a little more blunt. Handling something in-game takes requires more thought, takes longer and requires an elegant solution. As the most critical...

    D&D 5E Was I in the wrong?

He mentioned the gauntlet appeared to be part of the set. He mentioned they came together. It is reasonable to believe that attentive players pause, review, roll etc. for more knowledge before parting with such items. The smith asked if "the whole thing" was for sale. That implies plural. It is...

    D&D 5E Was I in the wrong?

I'm of the opinion that you did just fine. As the DM who spends time creating details it is perfectly acceptable to entertain the fact that PCs will/should pay attention in order to get the most fulfilling experience for everyone. How fulfilling has this experience been for you? You crafted that...

    DM Advice

I agree with Pre-gens if they are new to D&D. LMoP has some tough fights in it. Better not to let them get too attached to the characters. It's a great module IMO. I wish I ran it instead of starting off some noobs with the sundering DND Next (5e alpha/beta) campaigns.
