WotC Hasbro selling D&D IP?

If Critical Role goes to Campaign 4 and runs it on Daggerheart - when it releases - it will be a big swing. You're underestimating the potential here. The Venn Diagram around the newest D&D players and Critical Role fans has a lot of overlap - and the newest players are the best source for expanding the brand. If you cut that smaller and spread it into Daggerheart instead....
The little bit of data we have is that CR content could be one of the worst selling books.

I know we all have hunches, but it doesn’t quite appear that CR is a plus for selling TTRPG books compared to WotC’s regular content.

I think people overestimate the importance of CR. There's little to no correlation between the sales growth history of D&D and success of the show. In addition, I'm not sure people really care about the system, what they show is what it's like to sit around the table gaming.

I mean, speculate all you want, just don't expect people to agree with your guesses. :)

I think you’re overestimating.

Yes many people play D&D because of CR.

And many people watch CR because of D&D.

It’s a brand synergy. Don’t make the mistake of thinking it’s one-way traffic.

I call shenanigans. I mean maybe? But if Candela Obscura sales shows us anything it shows that the Critical Role brand doesn’t guarantee D&D scale sales for an RPG. I’m not sure it’s even in the top 10 after D&D.

I kinda love the game but I dint see gigantic sales.

Plot Twist: Tencent noticing the popularity of the mon videogame Palworld talk with Roll for Combat to create the videogame of "Battlezoo". (Disclaimer: Of course I was kidding).

In the last years 5e hasn't touched the Chinese culture as source of inspiration, but one of the dark realms in the "reboot" of Ravenloft. It is as if they wanted to avoid possible risks by fault of "dangerous friendhips".

A parnetship WotC-Tencent is possible. Tencent could create a "xuanhuan" D&D setting, by and for Chineses, avoiding possible taboos, for example about the undeads. This setting would also to be published in the Western market.

If Hasbro really needed to be acquired, then it should be other company under the same control of the investement fund.

And if Hasbro is well informed, I doubt they want to risk in the Chinese market for this years.

Buried Dynsasty from Radiant Citadel is inspired by China.

Artist. Game Designer.
This would explain why Hasbro gutted Wizards of the Coast during the last round of layoffs.

They don’t NEED them anymore if they’re getting sold.

WoTC hired a massive number of people these last few years, many of whom were working for myself and Paizo (who can now no longer work for me since they went to WoTC) and are spending hundreds of millions on their VTT and marketplace.
yes, they do

D&D might be doing well, but WoTC's expenses over the past few years for D&D have increased tenfold.
they are still turning a profit, aren’t they?

It's going to take WoTC years to get back their investment and they don't have years...
as long as you turn a profit, you do have time. Hasbro has some problems, WotC seems to be doing fine.

This means WotC will become even more important to Hasbro, not that they sell parts off
