Queen of the Succubi

In 3.5, the title of the Queen of the Succubi was granted to Malcanthet.

A previous holder of the title was Shami-Amourae, and another competitor was revealed to be Lynhkab. A new additional contender, Xinrivae, was also introduced.

While that's fine and dandy for third edition, the whole "Queen of the Succubi" thing just isn't going to work for fourth edition.

Now, that might lead one to the conclusion that these four characters are therefore expendable, and we can toss them out of the game completely like yesterday's news. However, I have another idea.

I've noticed that 4E has a tendency to repurpose and reform older characters and concepts to fit its needs. For example, see Phraxas, who apparently was once mighty Anthraxus.

So, the question is, what do these four ladies become if they are to be included in 4E somehow?

Lynkhab is probably the easiest, as I suspect she wouldn't change a whole lot from how she was introduced in the Planescape book Faces of Evil: the Fiends.

Malcanthet shouldn't be too hard to do, after all she was given a fair amount of depth in her Demonomicon article in Dragon #353. Hedonism would be a big aspect of what she is into.

Shami-Amourae was introduced at the end of the first edition era, and fleshed out again in the Demonomicon feature in Dragon #359. I'm sure someone known as The Lady of Delights, and even in more grandiose fashion, the Goddess of Debased Eros, could be fashioned into something workable.

Xinrivae I don't know a whole lot about, other than the brief description given in Malcanthet's Demonomicon article. She just wanted to take Malcanthet's title, and somehow seduction of women was her thing.

So, what ideas do you have? How do we make them not-Queens of the Succubi, but still interesting characters and powerful presences in the Abyss, each with their own unique approach to demonic femininity?

Well, you can still make them queens of the succubi, I think. Just give them more levels, more powers and upgrade them to Solos.

I'd have to dig deeper into their individual powers in the articles you mentioned and then just tool those powers for 4E. (I'm about to sit down to game, so don't have time right now) I think it would take a bit of work, but it's definitely something you could do if you know the overall 4E system fairly well.

interesting idea, though.

4e's Demonomicon includes succubi who moved from Baator to the Abyss at the same time as Graz'zt, mutating into demonic things. The 3e succubi could probably be recontextualized that way.

Some of them would probably work fine as Duchesses of Hell--they could just go with their portfolio into the diabolical ranks. It's sorta the counterpart of replacing succubi with demonic equivalents (or demonic succubi).

Well, maybe. But if you make them devils they'll have a very different feel, and their web of rivalries and alliances becomes very different.

I think it does the least violence to prior continuity to just do what they did with Graz'zt, and say, "Malcanthet is a former devil, but she lives in the Abyss now."

While I haven't done any conversion work or anything like that . . . in my campaign I just figured the Queens are all simply powerful devilish succubi that constantly fight for dominance and position. Makes the most sense to me.

Constantly conspire for dominance and position. Openly fighting would be a bad idea.

to each

Or at least terminally gauche.

Of all the devils, I can see the leaders of the succubi conspiring as much for the thrill of it a for any advantage. They probably also get together and broad each other's hair, while saying really cutting and bitchy things to each other.
