WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

just updated the post because I found more supplements, the main missing one now imo is Monsters of the Multiverse never even included that why would I take out modules? I thought that is the missing 50% in your 1e number.

just like you... I feel pretty confident given the data we do have however you ignore that Bookscan is US, D&D sells in other markets too. I will stick with a factor of 4 that is as true for your claim

just went through the bookscan numbers and no, 80% is way off... those 5 make up 48% of sales in the Bookscan numbers, at least the ones Alphastrream shows in their posts (and there is stuff missing., most notably Monsters of the Multiverse) Also, the total number is almost 10M units...

who provided it then? Is this my Dark Sun 250k number? Because that was all adventures combined, not per adventure.... Granted, that is the best year (just checked), the total is 705k.

eh, a few posts, no effort at all, esp. since you do not have to put any effort into making a case ;)

because I do not have them… and we know for another fact that the 5e numbers should be multiplied by about 4, and then your 1e numbers are dwarfed I am claiming they account for a quarter to a third of US sales, based in the analysis by Teos Abadia yeah, show it… not even sure it came out...

given that I replied to the first one I’d say that is incorrect yes they did not exceed 5e sales and I do not think the argument cares about this either way. I am not even sure there is an argument outside of ‘they could’ and ‘I would like them to’, if there is, I have not seen it

D&D (2024) Check Out The 2025 Monster Manual Alternate Cover!

not sure what you are referring to, but if they did it is probably deserved. I think overall it is a bump up in power level

unclear, at least to me it certainly can, if you spend effort and get little in return then you should rather have spent it on something else. In WotC's case that is 5e

where did they make that claim? All I see it ‘1e had more sales’

    Tell Me About DC20

that would severely limit what the Bard or Sorcerer can cast though, I can see how Fireball is some applied weird science, I don’t think you can sweet-talk the air into producing one however, no matter how persuasive you are ;) And don’t get me started on Strength or Dexterity DC20 style

12 * 100k * 12… but of course that is wildly overcounting Found this (emphasis mine) That gives us about 7.5M copies during the 1e lifetime (77 - 88). Not sure why I should assign all of it to 1e though when BECMI did just as well… so that is an inflated 4M allocated to 1e then :D

sure, give me those numbers and I need more than PHB and DMG alone to beat 1e, but it remains beat. We excluded magazines, I see no reason to include them, apples and oranges. Alternatively I add digital sales and DMsGuild as my lemon to the mix ;) You already give yourself a bit of an...

yes, but then it is US only, so missing all international sales, so I went with 25% instead of 33% (and anything beyond that really is buffer…). Even if you go with those percentages 5e US outsold 1e worldwide
