D&D General When did you leave D&D? Why? For what game? And what brought you back?

I left it because of DM burnout and being in a bad mental state. I came back because things got better and I learned how to DM without getting stressed.

    D&D (2024) 75 Feats -- not nearly enough

Let’s be fair: character options don’t all have to be the optimal choice in combat. Some are there to make players get features that help them bring their character to life. And whatever WotC will do, optimizers will only recommend a handful. That’s what optimizers do.

    D&D (2024) 75 Feats -- not nearly enough

If they give rebalancing feats a shot, those 75 might all become options, which is better than what we had. To optimizers it will never be enough, but they only use 10-15 anyway. And if more feats are released? The optimization will incorporate a few. 75 is more than enough to take a feat...

D&D 5E Homebrew: How to modify Shield spell?

Sorry, I meant that the shield spell's improvement to AC will no longer stack with the +2 of a normal shield. Does that make sense?

D&D 5E Homebrew: How to modify Shield spell?

I would not have it stack with a shield. It’s thematic enough and fixes my issues with AC stacking.

    It’s been there for months.

D&D 5E MCDMs Flee Mortals now on DnDBeyond

Flee! Mortals! Is a gorgeous book with interesting monster design. My own experiences using them has been mixed. A lot of the monsters are made “interesting” by overloading them with mechanics. As a DM who likes to keep up story beats during combat, this has been quite taxing on me. The minions...

D&D 5E What I Don't Like About Subclasses, and Potential Solutions.

I guess there is nothing here for me to talk about then.

D&D 5E What I Don't Like About Subclasses, and Potential Solutions.

Yeah, threads like these never amount to anything. I know it’s fun to discuss because you can just have a perfect system in your head that no-one will see. Already this thread is starting to unravel into discussions about the difference between a wizard and a sorcerer. If you want to be taken...

D&D 5E What I Don't Like About Subclasses, and Potential Solutions.

A lot of this talk is just an ideate phase of game design. Throw in lots of ideas, nothing is bad. Already we are seeing people disagree on how to do it. I want to see people do the harder work: build a prototype. Figure out what goes where. And then? TEST IT! Give it to your players. Give it...

D&D 5E What I Don't Like About Subclasses, and Potential Solutions.

Probably because they actually play test.

D&D 5E Vecna: Eve of Ruin's Table of Contents Leaked (Spoilers!)

Maybe we see revised stat blocks for all of these villains. That’s always interesting to me.

D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

I don’t know where to start with this last session, except the beginning: Our heroes started in the treetops of a cyclopean forest, named the Abyssal forest. The trees here are so tall that it blocks any light from reaching the forest floor, making it as barren as the ocean depths. Our heroes...

D&D (2024) What Should A New Core Setting Look Like?

New core setting should: Be new Be less Eurpean inspired Feature the core PHB races in different communities and cultures Show a reasonable effect of the spells in the PHB on history and society Have a clear, easy to find history with inspiring events and big names Feature all of the classic...
