Actually, how about a superhero/villain-style clash, with the D&D Cartoon and Strongheart-allied heroes following Bobby riding Uni, charging against Venger on his Nightmare, who is flanked by Warduke and that assorted cadre of villains!
I love Venger and Warduke. I will be on the lookout for an art print for this cover art. If Venger, Warduke, and Skylla are on the DMG, mirroring Strongheart and his companions on the PHB, what the heck will be portrayed on the MM!? I am also very curious about the alt art for the DMG and MM...
If they move away from the Protector/Scourge/Fallen in the Core book, that does indeed just open up more options, as the older versions will still be valid as well. It doesn't replace them. We already have different versions of Dragonborn, for instance.

For 1E, we tried it, hated it, and then ignored it. For 2E we bought Dark Sun and the Complete Psionics Handbook, and then we quit Dark Sun because it was too integrated in the setting and Psionics were broken. Never played Dark Sun again, though I bought books for lore.
The tone was that it was vital and non-optional and must be accepted. I refuted that, and was clear what I meant even if people were defining words differently.
Whatever. Your comment defines "authentic" D&D as psionic. After every time we tried it, we hated it, and we ignored it. Any psionics 2E and older was a hot mess of a burden. It wasn't fundamental, authentic, or vital in any way. It was very easily dropped without breaking anything and therefore...
