I like the art and plan on picking it up regardless of the cover art but it is a plus for this one. Side note, it’s blurry but is the MSRP showing 49.99? Nice if so!
I enjoy seeing the Shaw brothers mentioned, some of my favorite Kung fu movies growing up and probably why I was a ninja or samurai at Halloween!
I agree with @Bedrockgames, those would be low magic, then the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon being in the middle of the other end with Condor...
I was reading the recently released World Of Kensei by RiotMind and it has a good Asian themed “feel” to it. The art helps with the evocative Kung fu elements, for me at least. Worth checking it out if someone is interested.
We tried a Kara-Tur adventure back with 1e/2e and struggled making it feel different with the honor system but being that young I think we were really trying to emulate those old school king-fu movies in feel. Had fun with it none the less.
I’d buy it. Did the legend of 5 rings or paizo hire a consultant? Did they have any issues after release? I don’t follow them much but curious on the reaction fans had.
My hard copy arrived yesterday (Monday the 20th) and had the digital book show up in my dndbeyond app a week ago. Flipped through the book last night and just read Beth’s review. I’m looking forward to my own read through and more importantly, playing through it.
Not sure who would be the equivalent for GH, but man if WoTC opens it up on dmsguild and an Ed Greenwood type GH writer created new content, I’d be quick to purchase it like I did with Ed’s stuff for forgotten realms.
I got stuck at the army combat scene in the path and can’t seem to win nor is there an option to skip (that I know off)….and haven’t played the game in a long time. May have to check this out and try my luck at it again!
This kind of reminds me of my old 2e Dragonlance days where I felt like certain races or even classes didn’t fit cause they weren’t in the novels. And as a DM back then, didn’t like the idea of a player wanting to try something that didn’t fit what I thought was canon. Now since we rarely play...
I had forgotten how much alignment was used/mentioned in 1e and their settings. Probably not going to be used much in the new dmg GH world building chapter, other than maybe how to use it for an example, and I’m fine with it.
How much diving is considered diving in for character creation in a setting? Does a google or wiki search of a location on a GH map enough or are we talking saying my parents ran a shop in said city and the scarlet brotherhood was shaking them down and I grew tired of it and….go from there...
