I use standard 1d6 damage per 10 feet, but no cap on damage taken. RAW is incredibly silly to pretend like you reach terminal velocity after only 200 feet, I'm all for suspending real life physics but that's just so far off
Yeah wasn't the point of the thread for people to explain what they enjoy about neo-trad? Somehow many the posts are just about how much neo-trad sucks
I have seen all of these things happen many times in neo-trad games, with the exception of mind control lasting "an entire game session" (mind control yes, but that duration is excessive). The difference would be that all of these events would occur as part of a tractable challenge with an...
You show only the difference between what you imagine neo-trad to mean and what it actually is in reality. If I ever saw a table playing the way you describe neo-trad I would run away in a hurry. Luckily I've never seen anything remotely resembling what you describe
Yeah he's posted like 10 times with strawman arguments where he defines "neo-triad" (sic) as something completely different from reality and then proceeds to bash on how bad it is.
Every playstyle will sound awful when misrepresented by someone who hates it and is biased against it.
I'd love to see a study like this for Heavy Metal listeners only - metal just keeps getting better every year. When I go back and listen to the stuff I loved as a teen, it's so slow and boring by comparison
You're mostly correct here, but there is an actual difference in how game styles have evolved over the years. Just because no one agrees on the definition doesn't mean there isn't actually something here worth discussing. Makes it super difficult to get any productive discussion going though...
Yeah for sure I've only played at a handful of tables, but what has me the most confused is people using Critical Role as an example of the DM somehow having no control over the story
Well yeah, because it is one sided. The DM runs the show and has final say on everything, so the DM can incorporate player ideas whenever the DM chooses to, but it doesn't work the other way around. Players don't get to just make decisions about what happens in the DMs' world, they can only...
Answering for myself, I've never heard these labels before but I love the 'Critical Role style' which is apparently OC/neo-trad.
To me the draw is that when done properly, there is almost no difference between what that article describes as Traditional vs OC/neo-trad. Both focus on telling...
No not really. Spider Climb definitely does let you do more than Athletics for a 2nd level spellslot AND concentration. I just think that usually there isn't that much extra capability gained to justify the resources. Certainly not enough to justify the whole "casters can do everything and...
