Yes, the average is always the same for a given set of dice. Each N-sided dice has an average of (N/2 + 0.5), so - for example - 3d10 + 6, have an average of 24.5. Probably, I'm not actually understating the question, though.

For which edition? In 5e all monsters already list the average damage before indicating the dice to roll.

Yes, when I can afford it, I also go for the double version. Sometimes, I do that also for non-gaming books. The paper version for the pleasure to read, the ebook for the portability, accessibility and possibility to search.
