dnd does not have one as it has few books even bothering with psionics as people were more concerned with making another type of elf or being a wizard or creating that guy all the dark elves were cloned from. what back-of-fiction psychics few are as versatile but few anything are as versatile...

we had a wizard knock off before the sorcerer it was called the cleric it has its own knock offs.

one can separate wheat from the chaff but sadly the harvested crop seems to be human toxic waste rather than anything I can use for bread.

self-power is not the problem. sorcerers suck for me on two levels mechanically they are uninteresting and are clearly the middle child of arcane classes. thematically I hate them as it is either by blood or exposure to a magical thing that they gain powers that read like a protagonist...

so your end goal would be a rather different idea for a psionic caster who clearly is not a wizard clone. how would you define a successful psionic caster then what areas would it pull from stat-wise, thematically and what sub ideas for sublases in a vague sort of sense not like a functioning...

I think it depends on the class some lend themselves more to wide customisation some to a few good subclasses and then nothing but patches so to speak. I do not see it as a problem more just how some things have to be understood. I think it is more that no one wants to buy the rusted scrap heap...
