DC20 Kickstarter launch on June 4th

Weird Wizard as a comparison to 13th Age 2e - which also isn't out. Or we might compare Shadow of the Demon Lord and 13th Age 1e? Whatever folks prefer.

DC20 Kickstarter launch on June 4th

Ok. How about "Shadow of the Weird Wizard" as a better comparison? (Even if "Shadow" got a little more from its Kickstarter.)

DC20 Kickstarter launch on June 4th

I think 13th Age has been out of the zeitgeist for a while. The first edition was released a decade ago. There haven't been any liveplays that I'm aware of. No big releases. It's kind of like expecting folks to get excited about a new edition of True20 or Hollow Earth Expedition.

DC20 Kickstarter launch on June 4th

I don't think a sizable number actually plays anything besides D&D.

WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

Beyond the Crystal Pepsi? Sinister Secret of Salt and Vinegar? (Venger?)

Heck, Wizards can't even adequately support 5th edition.

    13th Age 2E update!

Promotion isn't the only thing, but I'd love to see a deep dive about the design ethos of the system. Like get Heinsoo out there to say "this is a big improvement we're doing." Or "this is how things are different from 5e."

    13th Age 2E update!

I mean, yeah, his annotated list is more interviews than I've done, but it's still fewer than what DungeonCoach has done in one day. And there's no real "force of personality" behind 13th Age. I'm not hearing from the designers. And you can't do that anymore. Look at the involvement of Matt...

    13th Age 2E update!

I understand. What hits me about the 13th Age design philosophy is that it hasn't changed or innovated in significant ways that will alter the experience compared to 13th Age 1e. (To be fair, I'm also not planning on purchasing 2024 D&D - because there's just not enough new about it.) The game...

DC20 Kickstarter launch on June 4th

They seem genuinely excited - or at least promoting it for a friend. I haven't seen any that have been paid. I've watched Professor DM, Bob World Builder, and a few others.

    13th Age 2E update!

Yeah. I just cancelled my first day all-in pledge and redirected it to DC20. I mean, I already have 13th Age. Not really seeing much advancement here. Seems like no one is talking about it. They put the SRD as a stretch goal. (Supporting open gaming shouldn't be a stretch goal.) They are...

DC20 Kickstarter launch on June 4th

I think this has reached critical mass. It has beat the entire funding period for 13th Age 2e in its first 24 hours. Everybody's talking about it. Will probably end up bigger than MCDM RPG. Maybe bigger than Daggerheart. Didn't see this coming.

Ben Riggs: 'The Golden Age of TTRPGs is Dead'

Hey, if they can get people to purchase a corporate advertisement to celebrate their business, I guess more power to them?

    Big Kickstarter day

Yeah. That's a big day. I just backed 13th Age, MCDM, Savage Solomon Kane, and several from Roll for Combat. For me ... DC20 is kind of a risk. Don't know much about it or how it might be adopted or supported. I like the ideas, but there are just so many fantasy heartbreakers right now. Savage...

    Roll20 Purchases Demiplane

I've kept my paid membership to Roll20 for a couple years, even though I haven't used it since switching to Foundry. I got a reminder last week it auto-renewed for the year. Just for the fun of it, I signed on this afternoon. Man, it's primitive. I can't believe I'm paying for it. Time to...

Are TTRPGs Even a "Good" Hobby?

So I did want to share an update. I was invited to the graduation party for one of the players this weekend. While I sat hanging out with the other adults, talking about jobs and drinking wine coolers, the high-schoolers all got together in the dining room. The older son (who is in college now)...

What RPG Do You Wish Had A Retroclone?

Hackmaster is way too ... way too ... way? I watched a 2+ hour system deep-dive video on it, and let's say it's extremely intricate.

What RPG Do You Wish Had A Retroclone?

Yeah. I just came across that this morning, in fact. It somehow hadn't been on my radar. Not finding a lot of information about it yet.

Wonder if you will be able to play Monopoly on Roll20 now? ;)

What RPG Do You Wish Had A Retroclone?

I wish AD&D 1 and 2 saw the kind of variety of design updates heaped upon B/X in the OSR community. There is basically one reprint of each (OSRIC, For Gold and Glory), but no real improvements or attempts to modernize either.
