D&D 5E Advanced D&D or "what to minimally fix in 5E?"

It is the nature of internet discussions to highlight differences and to magnify small differences. If one makes a post that someone agrees with, it may garner a like but rarely a comment. However, anyone with the slightest nit to pick will post to voice their opinion. This is true, even if...

D&D 5E Advanced D&D or "what to minimally fix in 5E?"

We really do not know, in that we have no data one way or another. It is possible but I find implausible that majority of D&D players have no knowledge that other systems exist. I think that if one knocks around YouTube then other systems will come to one's attention. beyond that i really have...

    Are our tastes set?

While I started with Basic and 1e, it was 4e that really clicked for me and I really like 5e. I think I would stick with 5e.

    Roll20 Purchases Demiplane

Probably Why would they not be down with it. What does it matter to them where the sale is made, a sale is a sale as long as they get their cut.

D&D 5E Advanced D&D or "what to minimally fix in 5E?"

Different markets reward different strategies. 10 or 20 different flavoured sugared water products might be a good idea in the soft drinks market but not in a different market and in some markets bare different competing products are inevitable. If the barriers to entry are low then there will...

D&D 5E Advanced D&D or "what to minimally fix in 5E?"

Most of the variety is being supplied by the same people. The brands are owned by the same holding companies and in many markets there are only a couple of actual players. In some case, rival product is made by the same producer for the benefit of the brand holder.

D&D 5E Advanced D&D or "what to minimally fix in 5E?"

That is what a lot of companies actually do, but there is also the strategy of filling in the niche of people not satisfied with the popular thing.

SmiteWorks Hires D&D Beyond Founder as Chief Development Officer of Fantasy Grounds

As an ex-developer, I am having a hard time imagining a situation where this could be true, in an absolute sense. I could see this being an issue when the split from Classic occurred and allowing free windows in the Unity version would break data compatibility from Classic and they did not have...

D&D (2024) What is your favorite standard 2024 cover?

I think MM cover is best but I like all of them.

SmiteWorks Hires D&D Beyond Founder as Chief Development Officer of Fantasy Grounds

Well, yeah, that is an added complication but could be solved again by appropriate choice of languages and libraries. We (or at least I) do not know about the current architecture to say more. It is a problem that can be solved with enough effort. If that effort is worth the developer time and...

SmiteWorks Hires D&D Beyond Founder as Chief Development Officer of Fantasy Grounds

They could run UI windows outside the Unity engine. For instance, they could create the UI in a C# or C++ (or other development platform) and just warp the unity application in this. Only the fancy graphical elements need to be in Unity, the rest are simply text presentation and editing linked...

SmiteWorks Hires D&D Beyond Founder as Chief Development Officer of Fantasy Grounds

Yes and no, it has always been possible to create containerless applications. At least once multitasking operating systems came on the scene. My understanding is that FG was initially built without such support. Changing the UI interface basically requires a complete rebuild of the UI and all...

D&D 5E What Do You Not Like About The 2014 5E DMG?

I found it dull to read and for most of the last 10 years, I found it very difficult to find anything. Less so recently, as I have gotten more uses to it, but I think it is a big issue. Make stuff easy to find and also do not scatter rules over several sections.

D&D (2024) What should WotC change with their new screen?

I would rather a magnetic backing with some magnets with clips. The one can buy the screen and each slipcase can feature laminated tables and rules that can be attached to the inside of base screen.

D&D Movie/TV Paramount+ Will Not Proceed with Dungeons & Dragons Live-Action TV Show

The toilet humour in Vox was fanservice. The live stream had a lot of it.

Are TTRPGs Even a "Good" Hobby?

fair enough but he wants to reduce the workload and really many people and possibly including the OP, get way too worked out about small stuff.

Are TTRPGs Even a "Good" Hobby?

While I agree, I do not believe one can fine tune 5e the way one could in 4e and I also believe that outside boss fights it is not worth the effort. I also do not believe that every fight has to be a cracker edge of the seat affair. Some there to show that the PCs are awesome, we are not making...

Are TTRPGs Even a "Good" Hobby?

I roll behind the screen and since 5e I do not fudge at least not dice or hip points but I have never tracked players AC, hit points or anything else (except with VTT because they do it) but I will be damned if I change my die rolling because of what the internet says. That said 3.5 was my bug...

Are TTRPGs Even a "Good" Hobby?

I remember discussing this with you before and I seem to remember that you have a liking for 4e style cinematic combat and I do not believe that 5e can do that. I wonder if you have much time on the player side of 5e? Combats in 5e look worse from the player perspective than from the DMs...
