WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

There weren't really any "walls" to tear down. Putting the SRD into CC just made sure that WotC wouldn't later try to put some walls up.

WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

This phrase . . . "walled garden" . . . has come up a few times recently in reference to D&D Beyond, and the actual game itself too. D&D, the tabletop game, is not a "walled garden". It's a game with an open license for other companies and fans to produce content compatible with the game! Sure...

You should pick up a used copy or a digital copy. It's pretty cool! One half of an isolated island inhabited by necromancers, the other half by magic-fearing barbarians, each convinced the other society is EVIL. Good times.

I kinda like where the World of Darkness is right now, just a handful of books for Vampire, Hunter, and Werewolf. Although, Renegade Games needs to get cracking on a new edition of Mage!!!

Why doesn't WizKids sell 3d print files?

Oof, yeah. I'm probably late to the party, but I recently noticed there are Etsy sellers who are offering D&D ebooks . . . digital PDF files of Dragon, Dungeon, and other magazines. Etsy, apparently, is rife with piracy. I have no doubt that's true for 3D prints and STLs also.

WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

Nah. Certainly, some fans would appreciate this, no doubt. But this would be a lot of effort for little return, and confuse the market. I remember being a kid in the 80s and discovering that D&D and AD&D were two different games! I was soooo pissed and confused. Still doesn't make sense to me...

    Spoilers Godzilla Minus One [spoilers]

Just watched on Netflix and really enjoyed it! I loved having the story set just post WW2 and felt like I learned a bit about the Japanese experience at the time (minus giant monsters, of course). Godzilla's first appearance in the movie was terrifying and looked way better than he did later...

Wizards Goes Big with Vecna: Eve of Ruin

They can't showcase settings . . . to your liking. It's not a matter of "correctness".

Why doesn't WizKids sell 3d print files?

It would be neat if WotC and WizKids created a catalog of classic D&D miniatures you can purchase digitally for 3D printing . . . perhaps STL files for sculpts going back to the old-school days of the 70s and 80s. It would also be neat if they developed a customized miniature app like HeroForge...

Wizards Goes Big with Vecna: Eve of Ruin

Something I miss from the 3E days is the "web enhancement". Many of the D&D 3E books had extra content available to download online, usually in PDF format. Some of the extras weren't terribly exciting or useful, but some of it was pretty awesome. Some of it was "cut for space" material, others...

D&D General The Problem With Paladin's Medieval Origins (+)

What fantasy genre? THE fantasy genre! Granted, even back in the 70s, the fantasy genre was broad . . . if dominated by Lord of the Rings. Gygax and the community that informed his development of D&D essentially picked and chose their favorite elements from various fantasy stories and myths to...

D&D General The Problem With Paladin's Medieval Origins (+)

I wouldn't use the term "diluted", but the paladin class has certainly broadened over the decades. As have all of the other classes as well, especially in 5E. And, IMO, that's a good thing. The fantasy genre that D&D attempts to model is also a lot broader than it was in the 70's. And the game...

Dude, relax. You disagree with some of the other posters here, no need to get aggressive about it.

Wizards Goes Big with Vecna: Eve of Ruin

Could they easily have avoided this? Well, maybe. It's possible the design team did not remember this obscure canon detail. If so, I'm okay with that. If they did remember . . . yes, they could have easily avoided the situation. But they didn't, likely because they thought the idea was cooler...

D&D General The Problem With Paladin's Medieval Origins (+)

As several posters above mentioned, the paladin class was directly inspired by the character of Holger Carlsen from the novel Three Hearts and Three Lions by Poul Anderson. Holger is an eternal champion type of character that serves the cosmic forces of law and good. But yes, a large part of...

D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

It's not that D&D needs a certain number of classes . . . but the current roster covers fantasy archetypes fairly well. Adding another class that has equal "archetypal weight" to the existing classes is hard. I'd like to see the artificer graduate to the PHB. I'd like the warlord and psion to...

Love the cover art for both the new PHB and DMG. I'm excited to see the alternative art for the DMG! And of course, what's on the MM?
