Are TTRPGs Even a "Good" Hobby?

I'm a little startled about the last part, but if you had a group with a very F20 centric game experience, I can perhaps see it happening since SW is pretty far from that.

I don't remember your feelings about Savage Worlds, or I'd recommend SW with the SF Companion.

Or one of the Cepheus Engine offshoots.

After you'd used disingenuous, which I don't believe is an appropriate term for a lot of the people not telling GMs about problems. That's the problem with it; being disingenuous implies manipulation, and I don't think that's what's going on.

Again, your choice, but its not something I'm going to assume isn't happening either, semantic loading on your choice of term notwithstanding.

You can feel how you want, but I've seen it enough times with different groups I'm unwilling to write it off. Though as noted, there's some loading in "disingenuous" that I don't think usually applies, as it implies deliberate manipulation and I don't think that's what's going on.

The latter is important. I'm neither a big fan of, nor a massive foe of fairly railroaded adventures; I played through two PF2e Adventure Paths in the last few years, and managed to acquire considerable pleasure out of the experience even though there were parts that were annoying because of...

In particular, as I've noted, players have a not exactly unknown habit of keeping some degree of their problems to themselves with GMs, and this can be for any number of reasons, not all of them because of GM malignity.

Though its pretty easy for dissonance here to break things. You can have one player who's taking things a little casually while others aren't, but usually if most of the players are really serious and one is goofing off, it both stands out like a sore thumb, and potentially starts to bring up...

Retreater, I'm going to kind of rephrase what I think some others here are saying. It doesn't matter what we answer to your specific questions. Because we're not you. I've had problems with some of them in the past and with some groups, and when I did, in the end I usually had to walk away...

D&D 5E Help me understand & find the fun in OC/neo-trad play...

I suspect from my experience most people aren't going to prioritize their needs over the other players (which doesn't mean it can't happen, but its a known misbehavior among people aiming for that sort of thing, since it ends up breaking the structure of the game if not reined in). The GM might...

I certainly found it much less stressful than the one time I ran Fate. (Ironically, I'm not necessarily averse to things like Disadvantage systems, which sometimes require nudges from the GM, but they aren't usually quite as all-encompassing as Fate Aspects tend to be).

Where Do You Get Your Digital (RPG) Books and Materials?

Probably the majority of products I get are either from DTRPG or via Kickstarters, but I've gotten things on occasion from Bundle of Holding or Humble Bundle (the latter perhaps only once). In a few cases I've gotten them directly from the publisher when the weren't available on DTRPG and I...

Looking for a Cyberpunk Genre Game

The biggest issues I have with Red aren't the things themselves (though I agree pretty much completely with MGibster here); its that the current issue of a game shouldn't have problems that make it compare badly to the former one, which I think it does with 2020 for the most part (and I had...
