I’ve given the issue a bit of thought whist out on my morning walk. The problem is, the 5e rarety system is far too poorly defined. So, whist it may work at one table, it isn’t portable to others.
Here are a couple of things I’ve used:

Yeah, it seems like a number of images were cut from the print version, for reasons of space no doubt. I think they are all associated with stat blocks, and therefore are not in all cases exclusive to this publication (you might have the same stat block from a different source).
Mammals aren’t the only living things on the planet. Human day vision and colour vision is inferior to many bird species.
But if you watch your pet cat it’s quite obvious their close-up vision is rubbish. Maybe tabaxi shouldn’t be able to read?
Doctor Who was aimed at children, and that didn’t shy away from death and violence. I would say D&D show was aimed at some imaginary idea of what children are like.
As for the Star Wars shows, they don’t feel the need to be “adult” by including excrement jokes (double meaning intended).
Yes, I think it holds up quite well. The idea “bring a murderer to justice whist miniaturised” is narratively strong. It made use of scale props made for other productions, and the pesticides thing gave them an excuse for not being able to animate the insects.
But then, I think The Gunfighters...
Frankly, the toilet humour and sex references in Vox made if feel less mature.
I enjoyed the show, but I think it would have found a bigger audience without.
It’s the recent Star Wars animated shows that I think hit the right tone for a D&D show.

Planet of the Giants was ahead of its time thematically as well, being the first story to address environmental issues (pesticides) and corporate greed.
At one time there were plenty of competitors for that niche. Luck? Maybe, but if one of the other early hominids had won, would there be any significant difference?
Of course, the idea that a planet can exist with multiple advanced tool users could exist is nonsense. One would inevitably have...
I think the point of something like this is to provoke the viewer to find their own interpretation. The show itself is a liminal space. Liminal spaces can be uncomfortable because they do not offer certainty. But a few other things I noticed: most of the characters are female. There is talk of...
