    Economic Board Games?

EN World never fails! Thanks all, a lot to sort through. It is probably a long-shot, but do any of them take a more Marxist bent?

    Economic Board Games?

Thanks for the suggestions. It doesn't have to be under two hours - we can play over multiple sessions. It would just be more convenient.

    Economic Board Games?

I don't know a huge amount about board games, and wanted to crowd-source some ideas from EN World. Basically I'm looking for board games that deal with economics and geopolitics as a whole, that I can play with my teenage students. I know Monopoly, of course, and Catan has a strong economic...

    Geek Confessional Thread 2024

Similar to what someone said above, I find myself losing interest in a lot of sf/fantasy shows...lots of good stuff out there, but it almost feels oversaturated. Even the shows I liked to varying degrees, I find myself losing interest in and/or forgetting. Oh, and Rings of Power is an atrocity...

D&D 5E Help me understand & find the fun in OC/neo-trad play...

I grew up on the D&D of the 80s, so for me "traditional" was my imprinted default style of play, with the DM creating the setting and story environment within which the PCs interacted. PCs had agency, but the DM had ultimate authority as "author of the world." I personally never ran into...

    D&D (2024) Understanding "nostalgia"

Gonna have to disagree with you there, at least as a general statement. I mean, special effects and big budget geek movies, sure. But movies as a whole? I suppose that depends on what movies you're talking about. Some film buffs feel that movie-making peaked in the 70s. And of course comparing...

    D&D (2024) Understanding "nostalgia"

Nostalgia has a lot to do with imprinting, although the two are not synonymous. In D&D terms, it relates to the idea of "what D&D is to me." That is usually formed in one's halcyon years of playing, and each individual varies in terms of how that evolves or changes over time. While nostalgia is...

D&D (2024) So what happened to the new and classic campaign settings? (and what's next?)

Yep, I'm aware of it. It is really too bad it wasn't developed further.

D&D (2024) So what happened to the new and classic campaign settings? (and what's next?)

But did they, though? I didn't see much range, just very much the starting area. Anyhow, I think the reason Nentir Vale "didn't work out" had more to do with it being 4E than the setting itself.

D&D (2024) So what happened to the new and classic campaign settings? (and what's next?)

No, not like Greyhawk, which is very 70s-esque (with the Realms being more 80s-esque...and yes, I know it was conceived of as far as the 60s and developed in the 70s). I mean a setting created now, with 21st century D&D (players) in mind. I personally may not like elements of it, but it makes...

D&D (2024) So what happened to the new and classic campaign settings? (and what's next?)

I still think D&D "needs"--or could benefit from--a new default, kitchen sink setting to place their adventures in. I like the Realms, but at this point it feels worn out. Anachronistic, even. A new--built from the ground--kitchen sink setting could allow them to bring D&D fully into the 21st...

D&D (2024) So what happened to the new and classic campaign settings? (and what's next?)

Oh, I thought Deck came out last year - but you're right, it was in February. Did it get pushed back? So it looks like five this year, four last.

OK, makes sense - thanks. I knew Greyhawk was in the 50th anniversary, but didn't know it was getting a full chapter gazetteer. I can see why people are saying "odd choice."
