D&D 5E Thoughts on Divorcing D&D From [EDIT: Medievalishness], Mechanically Speaking.

The horrifying abrasive nature of lunar dust is way, way, way more concerning than asteroid or meteor strikes for a moon colony.

D&D (2024) Maybe this is a bit late, but let's talk about Rogue's Niche, and What Rogue Should Be.

Which I think supports the idea that niche protection isn't all that important. People don't seem to care that other classes can also not suck at skills under the onus of Bounded Accuracy and are just happy to have cool stuff to do.

D&D 5E Advanced D&D or "what to minimally fix in 5E?"

It's kind of weird that the orthodoxy of 'This is D&D' has now focused down to 'This is 5e'.

D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

The DMG should be for new DMs, showing them how to get started with the basics before they start to branch out. It's not there to serve people who are already beyond that need who crave novelty. I'm not going to argue with the idea that we'd be better off without D&D being dominant, but this...

D&D (2024) Maybe this is a bit late, but let's talk about Rogue's Niche, and What Rogue Should Be.

Is 'dungeon' all there is to exploration though? I should think 'exploration' would be the mode of play between combat, puzzles and social encounters where you're investigating things, climbing mountains, fording rivers, posing manfully before a New Zealand backdrop, petting donkeys and...

D&D (2024) Maybe this is a bit late, but let's talk about Rogue's Niche, and What Rogue Should Be.

I feel like maybe we can make exploration active and interesting and not try and find a way to impose penalties? It's like there's something inherent to exploration that makes people want it to be a pain players don't want to do. Reminds me of those sitcoms where the dad makes the family go...

D&D General The Problem With Paladin's Medieval Origins (+)

This thread is exactly why I'm glad the modern Paladin is a Champion of a Cause where the Cause is X. It's a very good deployment of the subclass system instead of rehashing old Prestige classes or kits. What's your cause? Okay, here's Paladin powers to reflect that cause. No need to...

D&D (2024) Maybe this is a bit late, but let's talk about Rogue's Niche, and What Rogue Should Be.

That's because the exploration pillar in and of itself -- as D&D tradition depicts it -- is super boring. Lots of bean counting and 'don't get punished' checks and little reward aside from the aforementioned not getting punished.

D&D (2024) Maybe this is a bit late, but let's talk about Rogue's Niche, and What Rogue Should Be.

The solution, as is usual for D&D, is to insist people do a thing they don't want to do because the designers are of a particular mind of how things ought to be done and not how they're actually done.

Worst rule in the game. (Saying feats are 'optional') And this is D&D, where encumbrance and the Champion live, so that's saying something. Edited for clarity.

    D&D 5E Let's pitch fun new class ideas [+]

You've come to know me well. Absolutely it would be. I do not delve in the dark science that mines the spirit of Jack Vance.

    D&D 5E Let's pitch fun new class ideas [+]

Kinetic A class based around telekinetic control of specific materials, creating a route to making a themeable caster that the current arcanists don't offer. You'd have spellists tied to subclasses such as pyrokinetic, crypokinetic, aerokinetic -- the basic element stuff, but also a fibrokinetic...

D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

Any my hatred for Lovecraft surely eclipses that, but I'm not begrudging people who want to play Aberrant Minds or GoOlocks. I just... like don't play them?

D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

Then the baby shall be cut in half. Edit: But seriously, it's kind of messed up to prefer killing the franchise to prevent some people from getting the optional class they want. That's a pretty amazing level of spite.

D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

So limited to just trying to be the pop culture of the 70's and early 80's? Trapped forever with a limited and outdated pallete with which to paint, rapidly losing relevant and relatability to modern audiences until it is cast aside by its parent company and locked away in the IP vault where no...

D&D General Lore-related: What happens to a fallen Harper?

The progression there is wild. Was courteous and didn't evangelize to a coworker Worked with someone based on their character Destroyed weapons that could murder the person they were working with and only then do we get to 'did like all the murders'. Which I feel like is not only the larger...
