D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

Nope, they get their kick by literally giving you a piece of their mind, whether you like it or not. ;) "Mind your own business, and I'll mind mine."

D&D General What it means for a race to end up in the PHB, its has huge significance

Sometimes. ;) At other times, I think of heritages and cultures.

DriveThruRPG For those who want to sigh-on. ;) The link is for Steampunkette's Paranormal Power.

"That will be for a jury of your peers to decide." ;)

D&D 5E Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

Don't ability score checks use the same formula for skill checks? It's not @Remathilis conflating skill with strength, it's the people who designed this particular formula for D&D. They devised a rather simple formula that could be used for ability score checks, skill checks, attack rolls and...

D&D 5E Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

"Sure, you are strong, but do you know how to use that strength of yours?" ;) A player in D&D could be the strongest, most agile, hardiest, intelligent, wisest or charismatic individual in the party simply because they rolled well and used the highest roll for a particular ability score. But...

D&D 5E Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

If Arnold and Bruce were both Fighters, Arnold would be the Strength-based fighter while Bruce would be a Dexterity-based fighter. The two would approach fighting in two completely different ways.

D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

Doesn't most of the power budget and design space for each of the classes in 5e already go to the subclasses? IMO this seems to be the case when you compare a class like the 5e Fighter to its' counterparts in 5e-adjacent RPGs like Level Up (which has more class features to cover the three...

D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

My favorite non-casting psychic would have to be the Elementalist class from Purple Martin Games' MoAR: Complete. This is Level Up's take on PF1's Kineticist class (which can be found in PF1's Occult Adventures)

D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

Dragon Magazine had a 3e variant of the cleric class known as the Arcane Disciple. These were clerics who worshipped magic and could cast arcane spells. The Scarred Lands setting for 3e had the Cabalist, wizards who could 'steal' some of the divine magic being channeled into a cleric by their...

D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

Maybe @Celebrim is thinking more along the lines of Pathfinder 1st edition's Psychic Magic? Psychic Magic is Pathfinder's take on Psionics. It uses the same mechanics as regular magic (Vancian), but it has two spell components that are unique to it- Thought and Emotion.

D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

The Archivist IMO sounds like it would be an archetype of Level Up's Savant class. :) https://a5e.tools/rules/savant Warriors rely on their physical prowess, and spellcasters have all manner of magic, but a savant needs no weapon or armor, only their mind. Brilliant ingenuity, meticulous...

D&D General Which Edition Had The Best Dragons?

3.0/3.5 edition IMO had the best dragons, not just for the books that @RoughCoronet0 mentioned, but also for the number of dragons mentioned in Dragon Magazine. It had articles on some of the lesser known True Dragons- ferrous dragons, planar dragons, Hex Dragons, and Tome Dragons. It had two...

D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

In Pathfinder 1st edition, a Shaman is someone who communes with the spirits of the world and the energies that exist within every living thing. I am not sure if the concept for this PF1 class is at all like the one people want for a 5e Shaman class...
