WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

I'm sorry you think I write business plans for WotC.

Not meant to be a business plan. Meant to start a discussion. I discussed motivations for the post here - WotC - WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

I personally can't do better, but I'm a crazy OSR people on the internet. What I can say is that it's really interesting to compare the recently released chapter of Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth with the original. Style has definitely changed for the better. I dislike the lack of brevity in the...

That's fantastic. I find myself googling dndlist0 a bunch. This is way easier and better.

WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

I started from the point where B/X is basically the starting point for a large portion of the OSR and it is full of flaws. I think those flaws can be resolved in a number of ways, but no attempt to resolve those goes past being at most the popular OSR game supported by a small company for a...

WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

Honestly, I included 3.x just because Pathfinder is/was a thing. I was mostly thinking very Dungeon Crawley build-resistant D&D vs. let's make a build that's for the highest possible DPR with my Kenku Spore Warden flying an Airship D&D. You can tell which one I prefer by context clues.

Dozens of dice? Amateur. Maybe Unreal Engine is a better analogy. I don't know that there's a great video game analogy.

WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

One is called D&D and one isn't - that's where the difference is. Daniel Proctor is doing a new revision of Labyrinth Lord and I'd definitely play that over B/X, but if I'm talking about it, I need to end up calling it D&D, or someone is most likely to wonder what the hell Labyrinth Lord is...

WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

I don't have a ton of data to prove that there are people are sticking with Pathfinder in pretty big groups. There are definitely people that are backing big kickstarters by tiny companies that are making games compatible with TSR's math. I think the difference is that one is called D&D and...

WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

Hasbro/WotC doesn't have the money to hire the workforce to do a refreshed 3rd edition and test the waters publishing secondary versions of a couple of their upcoming adventures as a test. They couldn't even spare the electrons to have those on D&D Beyond. They would never be able to scrape...

WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

Why compete with every other serious RPG maker with one product when they can compete with 3 products?

WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

This has been a post that for me has been a long time coming. I think WotC can and should support multiple editions of D&D. They've been in this mode since they bought the product from TSR where they're only supporting one edition at a time, and frankly, it creates great amount of disruption...

Ben Riggs: 'The Golden Age of TTRPGs is Dead'

Full disclosure, I listened to a bunch of his podcasts while he was writing "Slaying the Dragon", found them absolutely fascinating, bought the book, and haven't gotten around to cracking it. I like him, Peterson, and Appelcline. I do however suspect that if Wizards is paying for them to write...

Ben Riggs: 'The Golden Age of TTRPGs is Dead'

Riggs is well studied, and as such can give some pretty nuanced and interesting opinions. It's really interesting to hear about the history of the hobby, especially when it's from someone that isn't WotC who has an interest in emphasizing the bits that they like.

D&D (2024) New Dungeon Master's Guide Cover Features Venger (From the D&D Cartoons)

I'm more of the opinion that they're trying to appeal to the 80's kids that remember the cartoon, or at least having fun referencing that particular D&D. Just for fun adding a relevant meme.

D&D (2024) How Does Greyhawk Fit In To The New Edition?

I have no doubt that they're going to keep pushing FR. I'd think that they'd use Greyhawk to show how a DM can keep it grounded if you don't want your players to be things like Kenku Spore Wardens. I like the idea that the books may tag things as core classes and races.
