WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

You're right it can't. And of course in the 80s and 90s I might never be able to find an RPG if my local store didn't carry it or couldn't get it through their distributor. But these days if I know a game exists, old or new, I can generally find a copy online. It's much easier for me to...

WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

In the 80s and into the 90s, the eco system of table top RPGs at game stores seemed a lot more diverse, healthier even. When I walked into Lonestar Comics in 1991, I'd see multiple titles for AD&D, Cyberpunk, Shadowrun, GURPS, various Palladium Games, Star Wars, DC Heroes, Marvel Superheros...

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

I have no idea what to do with it, so back into the box it goes. I might just try selling it next time the LGS has one of their miniature swap days. I might get $30 out of it.

And here we go. The worst thing about this is the gun doesn’t really fit into the hands very well and you scratch the hell out of the paint putting it on.

🏳️‍🌈Pride Month- Celebrating Representation in TTRPGs (2024)

While Bowie might have appeared androgynous I don't believe he ever said he was anything other than a man. Even Boy George and Philip Oakey (Human League) whose appearance didn't exactly fit what was expected of men never claimed they were non-binary or anything of that nature. Quite frankly...

🏳️‍🌈Pride Month- Celebrating Representation in TTRPGs (2024)

I certainly haven't heard any complaints either, maybe it's because they're grandfathered in? I suspect the concept of gender-fluidity just wasn't there for most D&D players 40+ years ago. And without the culture wars we're currently experiencing there wasn't much reason for anyone to complain.

WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

I used to own a lot of 2nd edition AD&D books. A lot. But there were a lot of AD&D books/sets I never purchased including Dragon Lance which was extremely popular. It's been a long time since AD&D 2nd edition stopped being published so I can't reasonably expect to remember everything they put...

WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

I don't actually run any kind of company, but whenever we want to start some new at work we have to make a business case for it. i.e. How is this going to help the company? What's the cost of creating and publishing a different edition of D&D versus the expected return on investment? I...

WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

Dragon Dice wouldn't have been as big a problem without factoring. Because of the way TSR set up their finances, they couldn't deviate from the plan no matter what happened during the year. They knew they were over producing Dragon Dice but they had no choice but continue. Wow. Lorraine...

WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

When I typed "it was a factor" it should not have been construed to mean that I was arguing it didn't matter. As far as I understand it, in the aggregate, TSR was still making a profit overall on their RPG sales even if one or more product lines didn't make them any money. One of the biggest...

WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

This was a factor but it wasn't the only problem TSR had. As far as I understand it, they pretty much always made money off their RPG sales so I don't even think this was a major contributing factor to their bankruptcy. That said, I imagine WotC could produce multiple versions of D&D if they...

🏳️‍🌈Pride Month- Celebrating Representation in TTRPGs (2024)

I honestly thought this was going to be a game about Gaytorade and I can't believe how far off the mark I was. (I'm old and I like dad jokes.) It is nice to see how some things have changed for the better. I just recently purchased Arkham, a sourcebook for Call of Cthulhu set during the...

D&D General The Problem With Paladin's Medieval Origins (+)

I don't know if it was an article in Dragon or another publication, but it was about how Lawful Good characters, Paladins included, could conduct tactical operations. They didn't have to charge straight foward, they could use feints, attack from the flank, mislead their their opponents, or even...

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

I still have the gargantuan red dragon made by WizKids. I got it on sale for $200 the Christmas before last and I'd like to get around to painting it this year. It's a beast. An impractical beast.
