It was. I loved it. But like others here, I was 11...:)

D&D (2024) New Dungeon Master's Guide Cover Features Venger (From the D&D Cartoons)

I…wouldn’t mind that, actually. Just like I say I started with Moldvay Basic, and others say Mentzer’s.

D&D (2024) New Dungeon Master's Guide Cover Features Venger (From the D&D Cartoons)

Don’t discount the value of Gen X nostalgia. There’s still an awful lot of us still around. And the fact that some newer players may not be able to name those characters doesn’t detract from the fact it’s a cool painting. So, it doesn’t hurt the younger audience, and might give us old folk a...

D&D (2024) New Dungeon Master's Guide Cover Features Venger (From the D&D Cartoons)

A brushy art style does not mean it’s not finished. It’s a choice. Lots of great paintings over the centuries have had a brushy art style. In fact, one of the mark of a lot of great masters was knowing what details to focus on, and which to leave vague. Doesn’t mean you have to like it. But...

D&D (2024) New Dungeon Master's Guide Cover Features Venger (From the D&D Cartoons)

I have to admit, I kinda’ like it. Love the colours, and seeing Warduke and Venger does my old heart good.

    Dragonbane by Free League

True. But when the dungeons are small with little opportunity for choosing different way through, with dangerous monsters that are unavoidable, and humanoid npcs that are described as being inherently hostile and unlikely to negotiate, it feels a little hampering. At least on a first read through.

    Dragonbane by Free League

I had the same reaction as you, and then was flummoxed by the inherently combat intensive dungeons. It feels like it should be a system that rewards finding ways around combat, through negotiation or cleverness, with combat being a brutal but exciting final option. But the adventures don’t...

Hey, to be fair, I was 100% joking when I said that…:)

No no no…that’s just replicating the “Avengers eat shawarma” scene! It’s Marvel all the way down!! :)

D&D General D&D Red Box: Who Is The Warrior?

While I'm sure most people assumed they were male at the time (and why wouldn't we...it was the main character!), @Morrus is right, in that it's always been ambiguous. At least in hindsight, where we recognize that not all women action heroes need to look like pin up models. The proof of this...

WotC Vecna Eve of Ruin: Everything You Need To Know

Is there any guidance for equipping new level 10 characters? With regards to magic items, I mean? We’re much more familiar at playing at lower levels, where magic item variance isn’t such a big deal. But I’d expect characters at levels 10 to 20 might be expected to have a larger magic haul...

D&D General D&D "influencers" need to actively acknowledge other games.

Look on the bright side…it hasn’t gotten to the point where we’re arguing whether or not you look too much like a superhero… :)

D&D 5E Wind Walk and Grappled

Unless they're going to be 1000+ pages, I suspect it's more likely they'll rely on gamers having at least a modicum of common sense...;)

D&D 5E Wind Walk and Grappled

D&D 5E Wind Walk and Grappled

The way I see it, this would play out in one of two ways: If they have enough physical form to be grappled, they would have enough physical form to attempt an escape check. Or, if they do not have enough physical form to attempt an escape check, there would be not enough to grapple in the...

Paizo Pathfinder Life-Size Baby Goblin Coming from WizKids

Just thinking the same. Looks like someone wanted to tap into the baby Yoda trend without understanding why people were flipping over him.

    Dragon Reflections #76

Oh don’t get me wrong. I may be gently poking fun, but it comes from a place of definite love. This was my era of D&D art, and it will always have a special place in my heart. As much as I love the current art, you never forget your first love :).

It’s because she knows she’s too high level for this dungeon…:)

Based on the signature, it looks like Clyde Caldwell, actually. But you aren’t wrong about the armour and the vibes. Sums up a lot of art from that era really…silly armour and awesome vibes :).

D&D (2024) Comeliness and Representation in Recent DnD Art

That’s a pretty absolutist statement about a game that can have arcane and divine magic, extra dimensional beings, supernatural capital-letter Good and Evil, and can have spiritual rules which differ greatly setting to setting. Personally, saying Warforged have souls was probably the easiest...
